    ABOUT US

Rioghal Canine is dedicated to providing board and train services and custom training solutions to pet and working dog clients alike. Rioghal Canine gets its name from the celtic word meaning “royal” and provides professional training solutions for you and your dog. Rioghal Canine uses experienced trainers that are always working to enhance their skills and develop the best techniques to help dogs and owners. We want to help owners have the best relationship possible with their dog and we believe training is an integral part of that relationship. Owners have a consultation where they will meet their trainer in advance of your dog’s program.

    Training Philosophy

Rioghal Canine uses a balanced approach to training. Behaviors are built by rewarding dogs with whatever they deem the most valuable. For example, food, toys, praise or pets. As behaviors become fluid, leash communication is added and proofed so the dog begins to understand rewards and corrections, building a foundation of clear communication. As the dog understands the behaviors, the leash, and the guidelines for each behavior, the remote collar is added. External rewards are slowly phased out for most dogs by the end of their training program so owners can have a reliable means to communicate with their dog through commands, body language, leash, remote collar, and praise. Having more ways to tell your dog what you want helps your dog perform consistently and they can enjoy more of what life has to offer.

The goal of pet training is to help the dog be as content and happy as possible while being a well behaved member of your family. A well trained dog can have more experiences, go more places, and meet more people than a dog without training. Whether you want your dog to go with you on weekend adventures or simply not cause chaos at home, a trained dog is a huge benefit to the quality of life for both you and your dog.

    Meet Our Trainers

    Ben Gregory: Owner and Trainer

I was introduced to dog training through working dogs. I attended a small protection group just to watch and the decoy asked me if I wanted to get bit by a dog for the experience. I said yes and was hooked from the first bite. From there I began volunteering at the facility and dropped out of college shortly after to pursue my new found passion. Dog training has taken me all over the country learning, practicing and refining different training methods. I have worked with sport dogs, police dogs, protection dogs, and green dogs for vendors with federal contracts. I am an active French ring training and trial decoy. I love seeing something click for a pet or working dog. I am always excited when I see a pet dog mastering an obedience skill under distraction or when a reactive dog is comfortable in situations he normally wouldn’t be. I like the progressive nature of training and how every dog is slightly different. In protection work, I love seeing a dog get stronger in their confidence and clearer in their control.

    Dog Trainer

    Erika Krahe: Owner and Trainer

I grew up in Raleigh, NC and have always been fascinated with animals! I began my career in the veterinary field but then realized that my true passion lies within the canine mind as opposed to the medical side. So in 2019 I delved into the world of training by taking a job in dog training. I gained pivotal hands-on experience with pet, personal protection, police and military working dogs. As well as being introduced to the amazing sport of PSA (Protection Sports Association). Since then I’ve been hooked on improving my knowledge of dog training through seminars, working with other trainers, traveling to train and gaining personal experience.

Every dog owner has a unique bond with their dog; but the relationship one builds with one’s dog through training is something special. Not only do you learn more about them but you learn how to properly and clearly communicate with them. This reduces stress in the relationship and opens up more room for positive growth and bonding. My role is to help you and your dog achieve this! Watching this process is my favorite part of the job.

As the youngest of 5 kids, I understand a busy household and the challenges of having an unclear dog in that environment. With our help at Rioghal Canine we can shift the scale to become a more balanced and successful relationship between dog and family!

In my spare time you can always find me outdoors! Whether I am training sport dogs (PSA or French Ring) or just enjoying nature. As much as I enjoy training dogs, I also love sharing it with others.
